Donnarumma ‘doesn’t think’ there will be a second cohabitation with Navas

Paris (AFP) – Italian Gianluigi Donnarumma, 23, “does not think” of reliving another season sharing the position of Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper with Keylor Navas, and thinks that “the club will make choices” on this position, a-t – he told AFP on Thursday.

Q: You have just been champion for the first time, how did you feel?

“It’s beautiful, it’s my first league title, I’m very happy, and it’s my first trophy with the Paris Saint-Germain shirt. I’m very proud to belong to a great, very ambitious club. , always aiming higher.

Q: You arrived as the best player of the Euro, did you feel any particular pressure?

A: “Pressure, no. The debut was not easy, because it was my first outside Italy, in a new club, a new city. But I feel a big family behind me, a big club , the welcome was great, and after all it was easier for me.”

Q: How would you rate yourself on the season?

A: “It hasn’t been an easy season, let’s say a 7 (out of 10, editor’s note). I know I can do more, I haven’t played so many matches, only half, that hasn’t It wasn’t easy. In the conditions I experienced, I couldn’t give the maximum, but I’m convinced that I can give a lot more to this team and this club.”

Q: How did you experience the competition with Keylor Navas?

A: “I have a very good relationship with Keylor, we are two good guys, we understand the situation, but it was hard, and for him too, but let’s say that we managed it well, with the whole group and especially between the two of us.”

Q: What if there is to be another season like this to share the job?

A: “No, I think it will surely not happen like that, because I think the club will make choices.”

Q: You are in contract until 2026, do you want to stay next season?

A: “Yes, of course.”

Q: Among the difficult moments of the season, what is your version of Benzema’s first goal in Madrid?

A: “The goal wasn’t valid, but we could have managed the sequel better. We are very disappointed, like all the supporters, but we have to move on, we can’t wait to play the Champions League again to try to win it.”

Q: “Don’t you feel guilty?

A: “No, absolutely not, we know how it happened, I am not guilty of anything. Now we have to look ahead now, what is past is past, there is nothing we can do to go back and play the Champions League again quickly to show everyone who we are. We received a blow, the following days were not easy, but there was nothing more we could do about it.”

Q: The other difficult moment is Italy’s failure to qualify for the World Cup…

A: “It was hard, very hard, (sighs), the following days were very difficult, but as I just said, there is no going back. What we did at the Euro will remain in history, we have achieved something incredible. But Italy must go to the World Cup, and unfortunately we did not succeed. But we have to look ahead and start again.”

Q: What are your personal goals for next year?

A: “I don’t have personal goals, only collective goals. It’s the group that has to win, we have to do it all together, and the personal rewards will come from that. The first thing to do is to give everything for this jersey.”

Q: And win the Champions League?

A: “We have to try to win it, we are already thinking about it, but first we have to rest, there are two games left to play. We have to win, convince, rest and then come back as strong as possible. The obsession does not will get us nowhere, we just have to keep calm, do what we know how to do, play football, work, and the results will come. Too much obsession can become tension, it won’t get us anywhere. It won’t be easy, but we have the means to win it.”

Q: Is Kylian Mbappé staying at PSG?

A: “I don’t know, we don’t talk about that, it’s his choice, he will do it with great serenity. I will be happy if he stays, like all his teammates, but he will make his decision with his family, will do what is best for him.”
