After a contrasting season, Gianluigi Donnarumma took advantage of an interview for PSG TV to come back to various subjects, including the level of Ligue 1. More
A complicated first season
While PSG could already boast of having one of the best goalkeepers in the world, the choice was made to bet on Gianluigi Donnarumma. It must be said that this one, free of any contract, presented itself as a real market opportunity. From then on, Mauricio Pochettino decided to establish an alternation with Keylor Navas. An option that has not really paid off, far from it. Because, performing well during his first months in Rouge et Bleu, Gigio had a very different second part of the year.
It took a resounding rout against Real Madrid in the Champions League to completely dampen the morale of the Transalpine. A round of 16 return which saw him liquefy in front of a certain Karim Benzema. Since this unfortunate episode, Gianluigi Donnarumma is no longer the same. From imperial and serene, the former Milanese became hesitant, stammering his football.
A state of affairs which in no way prevented him from receiving the honorary award for best goalkeeper in France. A distinction he took with the greatest pleasure: “It validated an incredible season for me. It was really an incredible emotion for me to receive this award. I hope to be able to win many more. I’m still at the beginning of my career and I really want to win many more trophies. But more than individual rewards, what I want are collective victories. Because I think that’s the most important thing. That’s the main thing because we are a team, so the goal is first to win together. Then the individual prices will follow, they will be the consequence. »
Donnarumma and the real level of Ligue 1
Large leader throughout the season, PSG won their tenth Ligue 1 title. A highly symbolic trophy, as Gianluigi Donnarumma confirmed: “Yes it is special. A tenth title is something special. It’s really nice to be able to win it. We players all wanted to get him, but everyone at the club did too. It was our goal to win this title, so it was really an important season. Unfortunately, we were eliminated from the Champions League. But by winning the title, we consoled ourselves a bit because it made us very happy. »
Because contrary to what the general public may think, everything is not so simple for PSG. This is in particular the feeling conveyed by Gianluigi Donnarumma when discussing the level of Ligue 1. A much higher championship than it seems to him: “From the outside a lot of people think it’s easy to win Ligue 1 but I know it’s completely wrong. There are great teams in this Championship. It’s hard, really very hard to play in certain stadiums here, against a hostile public and against very competitive teams. It’s really not easy and you always have to be well prepared, work 100% because some matches are very complicated for us. If we are not at 100% it becomes difficult to bring back victories. You have to play your best every time”exposed Gianluigi Donnarumma at the microphone of PSG-TV.
