Friday, September 23, 2022

Pets soothe us but their quirks and improbable attitudes can sometimes be comical. Each year, the “Comedy Pet Photo Awards” reward the most hilarious photos sent by amateur or professional photographers. Here are the winners of the 2022 edition.

Animal photography is not daunting. Animals being full of surprises, it can also be humorous. Based on this principle, professional photographers Paul Joynson Hicks and Tom Sullam, two wildlife enthusiasts, launched the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards in 2015, a competition on wild animals open to all, amateurs and professionals.

The concept ? Capture funny animal situations or poses to promote species conservation and support a British charity working in animal protection. Building on the success of the competition, in 2020 they launched the Comedy Pet Photo Awards, another competition on the same principle as the first but dedicated to pets.

They have just unveiled the 2022 winners. Among 2,000 pictures received, it was a Japanese photographer who won the prize with his image of two cats posted against each other on a fence. Kenichi Morinaga began capturing felines on the street during his visits to small islands around Japan. Since then, he has spent a good part of his time capturing the antics of cats. He is not the only one. Here are the other funny shots chosen by the jury for this edition.
