At the bottom of the abyss just a year ago, the Danish playmaker bounced back very nicely and opened up about his transfer to Old Trafford.
Christian Eriksen claims he didn’t join Manchester United ‘just for the logo’. The Danish star insists he has every intention of contributing and getting back to his best after suffering a heart attack at Euro 2020. Eriksen joined Manchester United in the summer, continuing his Premier League career after spending half a season at Brentford.
“One of the greatest clubs in history”
The Bees gave Eriksen a chance to return to top-flight football after he was released by Inter due to his health issues, and Eriksen says he now expects to be a key player for Manchester United after having spoken with manager Erik ten Hag. “I want to come here to play football, I don’t come here just for the logo itself, I want to come here and play”he told the club’s official website.

“Obviously speaking with the manager and hearing his ideas and having conversations with him about football terms was great and ideal for me to make the decision and the opportunity to come to Manchester United. I’m a guy who wants to play football and I think with the idea of the manager coming in and the ideas he had and also with my conversations with him, I mean I could see myself playing football in Manchester.” added the Dane.
“At the same time, it’s a very, very big club, if not the biggest. If you say it anywhere, they know where it’s coming from, they know where the people from the corner. It has a great history and it’s a nice feeling to be part of something that is so big in history“, justified the former playmaker of Tottenham. Eriksen returned to the Premier League with Brentford, after leaving after seven years at Spurs to join Inter.
“I did not think of a return to England”
However, after a season in Italy, Inter were forced to cancel his contract in response to Eriksen’s heart problem during the Euros. Eriksen says he didn’t expect to return to the Premier League as he was looking forward to playing in Serie A, and he certainly didn’t expect to return to England as a Man Utd player. “I think from my background before the Euros incident, the planning was not at all to come back to the UK”did he declare.
Mercato: Manchester United are preparing a final offer for Antony
“I thought my time to go to Manchester United was before! Obviously then I was at Spurs, then I went to Italy, but now sitting here is definitely something I wasn’t expecting, but I’m also very happy to be here. It feels good, it feels good to be here. I think back then when I wanted to try something new and left the first one after more of seven very, very good years, I wanted to try something new and I went to Italy. It started out difficult but ended up being a very, very good place”added Eriksen.
“Then obviously I intended to fulfill my contract there by being in Italy, but as I said I took the time to think, and taking in who is calling and wanted to pick up and , fortunately, Thomas [Frank] called and Brentford was very excited, and I could see myself playing there for six months and see how it goes,” concluded the Dane.
