It is an unprecedented sporting challenge that the soldiers of the RSMA, from June 20 to 23: a running relay of 400 kilometers around Guadeloupe. 400 kilometers, for the 400 years of existence of the navy troops. This event is also an opportunity to come into contact with the population and inform them about the missions of the RSMA, which is resolutely focused on training young people.

It is in an original way that the Adapted Military Service Regiment (RSMA) of Guadeloupe celebrates, this week, the 400 years of commitment of the navy troops in the service of France: the local soldiers aim to go around the Guadeloupe, in four days, during a foot race carried out in relay, for a total of 400 kilometers to be covered.

A natural tribute, when we know that the action of the navy troops, notably led to the creation of the RSMA, in the overseas territories. This body, since 1961, as a device for socio-professional integration, accompanies local youth towards employment.

The route of this week’s relay race (from June 20 to 23, 2022) will cross the majority of the municipalities of mainland Guadeloupe.

  • For the first section, Monday June 20, the torchbearers set off from La Jaille in Baie-Mahault, towards Basse-Terre, without forgetting to climb to La Soufrière;
  • The second section takes them, this Tuesday, June 21, to Sainte-Rose;
  • The third section, Wednesday June 22, will go to Le Moule;
  • The fourth section, Thursday June 23, will close the loop and join the headquarters of the RSMA, on the military camp of La Jaille.

Why are we doing this? (…) We are at the service of the young people of Guadeloupe, we go towards them, in a pleasant sporting challenge and cohesion, which is a bit our brand, here at the RSMA. We have sports fields, we do a lot of sport, we consider that sport is important for the development of everyone, sometimes their level in sport (…). And there, the goal is not to achieve a sporting achievement; these are sections of 4 to 12 kilometers, depending on the levels.
